Thanks ethanol.
Started the car up to get the fluids flowing and up to temp a plan of taking it for a quick drive. Derailed by a strong smell of gas.
Just going to replace the segment instead of just tightening and crossing fingers. And I blame ethanol for all my gas related problems.

that doesn't look too bad. Also ethanol is the devil. The liberal media puts it in our gas to brainwash our cars that they are evil and should die, so we can all buy a prius.

Its an e30 problem. This is one of the tubes on the top of the gas tank, right? On my first e30, I noticed it on my 2nd or 3rd fuel pump replacement. I noticed it on the second e30 when I replaced its fuel pump.
I still miss having an e30, for some reason.

It accelerates dry-rot on every rubber surface it comes into contact with. I hate it. Found out after the third fuel pump and lines on my parent's lawnmower that mom had been buying 10% ethanol gas instead of the 100% gas for farm/lawn equipment down the road. On top of that, after a winter in the garage, the tank on the mower would have water in it where the hydrophobic ethanol was drawing it out of the atmosphere. Glad to see recent developments have them backpedaling on ethanol blend laws.

If the prices on some of the parts weren't as outrageous as they are, working on them would be more pleasurable. Things are laid out in logical and reasonably easy to access ways (most of the time). Not as "tank-like" as their contemporary Mercs were, but much more fun to drive.

I recently rejoined the world of E30 ownership. I hope this post is not a foreshadowing of things to come. I'm still in the honeymoon period and not ready for reality. When I was in school, my parents bought an old 325e for me to learn to drive and repair. My Dad "forced" me to research and then, with his help, repair anything that broke. Lately, I've been nostalgic for that car, so I upgraded to an M3.
